The Bosphorus Bridge is an iconic symbol of Istanbul and Turkey, connecting the European and Asian sides of the city. It was the first bridge to span the Bosphorus Strait, an essential waterway that separates two continents. A spectacular feat of engineering, it was designed by British civil engineers Gilbert Roberts and William Brown and completed in 1973. It is over 1500 metres long and was among the longest suspension bridges in the world at the time of completion.
As the first physical link between Europe and Asia, the bridge represents the blending of cultures and the strategic significance of Istanbul as a meeting point between East and West. At night, it is illuminated with a dynamic LED lighting system, creating stunning visual effects that have become a signature of the Istanbul skyline.
