Nelson Ghost Town

Abandoned since the 1940s, Nelson is Nevada's most famous ghost town, known for its authentic Old West ruins, abandoned buildings, and desert scenery.

Originally known as Eldorado, Nelson was founded in the 1860s during the gold and silver mining boom in El Dorado Canyon. The area attracted prospectors after rich ore deposits were discovered, leading to the establishment of Techatticup Mine, one of the most productive and infamous mines in Southern Nevada. Nelson quickly gained a reputation as a lawless and violent frontier town, where feuds, claim disputes, and outlaw activity were common.

Whilst mining activity continued to flourish until the early 20th century, by the 1940s it had fallen into decline and Nelson was abandoned, a town frozen in time. Nowadays, it is a well-preserved historic site and a popular tourist attraction replete with rustic weathered buildings and vintage vehicles. Thanks to its authentic Old West ambiance, well-preserved historic structures and striking desert scenery, Nelson has also served as a backdrop for various film and television productions.
