Rodeo Drive

This two mile long street in Beverly Hills is known for its luxury goods stores and fashionistas.

TravelCurious Tip

Rodeo Drive looks better at night than during the day, particularly at Christmas time when the Yuletide displays are on show and fairy lights are sprinkled everywhere

Rodeo Drive is a three-block portal to Los Angeles glitz. Running between Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard, it is one of the most famous shopping spots in the United States, and is among the most expensive places in the world. This is where the stars do their shopping, and where many others come to catch a glimpse them doing so.

All the most celebrated clothing designers have boutiques here, from Gucci and Armani to Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. It is in fact home to one of the most expensive stores in the world: Bijan. To shop here you must book an appointment in advance, and the typical customer apparently spends around $100,000 in a single visit. To top things off, Rodeo Drive is of course studded with jewellery stores, like Cartier and Tiffany. Even without buying things, it all makes for glorious window-shopping.

Much of Rodeo Drive is perhaps surprisingly understated in design, with the exception of Via Rodeo. This little stretch was inspired by a romantic vision of old Europe. Its short, curved streets are paved with cobblestones and lined with classically styled buildings. Expect stone archways, flowing fountains and wrought-iron lamp posts. It’s a great spot for a photo.

Yet Beverly Hills is more than just film stars, flashy sports cars, posh hotels and high-end shopping - as a stroll around the film industry-dominated city will soon reveal. Let your private guide tell you about what's below the surface of the neighbourhood.

At just 5.7 square miles, it’s a city best explored by foot, with tree-lined streets, botanical gardens meticulously well-groomed plazas, and a much more approachable area than TV may have you believe.

Beverly Hills is where fashion legends - designers and models - get a plaque embedded on the pavement with their name - not just film stars. It is also where fitness clothing retailer, Lululemon, offers free yoga classes and hosts a weekly run club - both open to the public at no cost. Named after the rolling hills of Beverly in Massachusetts, Beverly Hills was originally just a single ranch that farmed lima beans. It is home to an oil field, underneath the city. It is also the home of the world's first 24-hour Cupcake ATM - bright pink and shaded by a palm tree, dispensing freshly baked cupcakes 24/7. They also bake dog-friendly cupcakes too.
