You've probably heard of the Frida Kahlo Museum, but did you know that Mexico City also has a museum dedicated to works by Diego Rivera and Angelina Beloff?
The Dolores Olmedo Museum is located at La Noria in Xochimilco, Mexico City. Acquired by Dolores Olmedo in 1962 and converted into a museum in 1994, it hosts the largest collection of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Angelina Beloff artworks.
In addition to donating her entire collection of pre-Hispanic, colonial, folk, modern and contemporary art, she left funds for taking care of her museum upon her death in 2002.
The complex contains five buildings and hosts up to 170 paintings, including 145 by Diego Rivera, 25 by his wife Frida Kahlo, some of their scripts and drawings, nearly 6,000 pre-Hispanic figurines and sculptures, and diverse living animals such as geese, ducks, six Xoloitzcuintles (Mexican hairless dogs), and Indian peafowls kept in the museum's gardens.
