What makes this tour special
Discover the beguiling medieval charm of the Old City where cobblestone streets, Gothic spires and Georgian terraces reveal a rich history of merchant trade. On your private historical tour, you will:
Stroll the atmospheric streets of Bristol’s Old City, rich in medieval history and packed with maritime character on the quayside where hauls of rum and sugar were stored.
Discover Bristol’s prosperous port heritage derived from domestic slaves captured in Wales or Northern England and sold to Ireland’s Viking chiefs.
Keeping a watchful eye over mariners, the church of St Mary Redcliffe guided merchant ships out of the Port of Bristol for 800 years.
As the home of Banksy, Bristol has a global reputation for street art - prepare to be wowed by the bold urban murals in Nelson Street.
Admire beautifully restored warehouses that are home to cosy cafes and restaurants and the wines bar that now occupy Corn Street’s former banks.
Enjoy a pint or a house wine at one of Bristol's lively pubs, while your guide gives you recommendations for the best local recommendations for the remainder of your stay.
Strolling the Old City evokes an era when ships would arrive from all over the world at Bristol port, laden with wealthy cargo. From here wander to a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the St Mary Redcliffe - which guided ships out of the Port of Bristol for eight centuries with prayers for safe passage.
Affluent times built elegant Corn Street and the lofty banking halls that counted the profits of global trade - now a lively pedestrianized bar and restaurant zone. The Corn Exchange building retains its mercantile buzz as a hub for local artisans. In Nelson Street, the creative vibe is entirely different as the home of Bristol’s bold, colorful street art. Banksy is Bristol born yet the transformation of the drab 1960s grey frontings to the city’s beating artsy heart owes much to a dozen or so cutting edge graffiti maestros.
