Sweden of Old
You will begin this comprehensive tour of Stockholm’s very best museums by visiting the world's first open air museum, Skansen, founded in 1891. Here you can immerse yourself in five centuries of fascinating Swedish history. Around 150 traditional buildings from across the country scatter the hilltop, providing a real glimpse of what it was like to be a Swede hundreds of years ago.
Make sure you do not miss the glass-blowers’ cottage, where you can watch the skilled craftsman transform glowing blobs of liquid glass into intricate pieces of art. The Nordic Zoo, with elk, reindeer, wolverines and other native wildlife, is also worth exploring, especially in the height of spring when the zoo is full of baby critters. Stockholm’s Art Scene
You will end this fascinating tour at the fabulous Fotografiska Museum, which is a vital centre for contemporary photography in the heart of Stockholm and is an absolute must for all photography enthusiasts. The temporary exhibitions are impressive, showcasing excellent international photographers and filmmakers, including the incomparable Robert Mapplethorpe and indie filmmaker Gus Van Sant. There is also a great permanent collection of photographs from Swedish and international photographers that is well worth your attention.
Touriocity Tip: After perusing the museum, why not enjoy a well earned break to sample some authentic Swedish cuisine at the museum’s fantastic restaurant and cafe.
We created this tour because it invites all art enthusiasts to gain a comprehensive experience of Swedish art.
