Amsterdam was the richest and most powerful trading city in Europe – and like all historic cities, it has had its fair share of death and disease, murder and mayhem, crime and punishment. In old Amsterdam, the Dutch were deeply superstitious, and the city is rich in medieval folklore, with many stories of ghosts and goblins, witches and demons.

You’ll hear stories about the witch-hunts, tales of poisonings and beheadings beneath the blade of the guillotine, and the haunting miracle of a lady called Cornelia Arens, whose coffin kept moving from its burial place until the authorities complied with her wishes… You’ll learn the legend of a corrupt monk named Aloysius who met a grisly end and is said to haunt the upper floor of an Amsterdam canal house, searching for his head.

AOn tours cancelled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure time, we are happy to offer our customers a full refund - minus a 5% credit card fee and the cost of any tickets that have been purchased.

For tours cancelled less than 48 hours before the scheduled departure time, we are unfortunately unable to offer refunds. If you would like to reschedule a tour, this is usually possible if we are given enough notice, but we cannot guarantee the same guide.

Changes made to bookings may be subject to rebooking fees to cover the cost of tickets purchased, transport, guide rescheduling and administration.
