What makes this tour special
Split is the second largest city in Croatia and is a typical example of a Mediterranean city. Throughout history, the development and expansion of the city have continued around the palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian.
Diocletian's Palace dates back to the 4th century and is one of the best-preserved buildings of this type in Europe.
Besides this unique monument, it is possible to find a large number of other archaeological remains in the city and its immediate surroundings, not only from the Roman period but also from other historical periods.
Take advantage of this great opportunity to get to know the historical centre of Split and to feel the atmosphere of this beautiful urban centre that has become a hub of fashion and various fashion trends. Stroll down the famous Split promenade and have fun shopping in the boutiques of famous Croatian and worldwide brands, as well as in the largest shopping centre in the region.
The city of Split was founded by Roman Emperor Diocletian in 295AD. It took 10 years to build his palace where he lived until 313AD when he died. However, other former Roman rulers used it for retreat until the 6th century when it fell into disrepair. With 68 rooms, the rooms are exact replicas of how Diocletian left them. Tours of the Palace are held all year round and are inexpensive, with some of it being re-purposed as markets, shops and restaurants.
Split is full of heritage and culture, so if discovering the background behind this Roman city entices you, don't miss out! Within 2 hours you could have access to 8 UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Diocletian's Palace and the Cathedral of St. James.
The Riva is Split's promenade, and is one of Split's most popular attractions. It had been reconstructed multiple times over the years to ensure its strength is as it was when it was first built. It has the most beautiful views of Diocletian's Palace, the Franciscan monastery and the Church of St. Francis. Now, its purpose is solely a tourists heaven, featuring a number of cafes, restaurants and places to enjoy entertainment.
