Founded by settlers in 1835, Queen Victoria officially declared Melbourne a city ten years later. The Victorian era gold rush propelled Melbourne to be one of the world’s wealthiest cities in the 1850s. Its legacy owes a lot to this period, the impressive contemporary architecture and diverse multiculturalism are clearly visible when you walk around the city. 

In this comprehensive seven hour city tour, your expert local guide will direct you to some of the most important historical and cultural sites of this fantastic, dynamic city. You will be met at either your hotel, or at a prearranged meeting point, where you will explore the very best of Melbourne. Including the State Library, which contains over two million books and was a driving force for Melbourne being awarded UNESCO city of Literature in 2012. 

Monuments of Melbourne

Fulfil all your shopping needs at the Victoria market, the largest open air market in the southern hemisphere. Venture through the alleyways of the Block Arcade, containing some of the best preserved Victorian era architecture. The Shrine of Remembrance, a striking memorial to all the Victorians killed in WW1, its design based on the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus an Ancient wonder of the world. Bask in the serenity of the Royal Botanical Gardens, one of the world’s most impressive Botanical Gardens, lying beside the Yarra river. 

Glimpse a snapshot of Australia’s history at Cook’s Cottage, an English cottage owned by Captain Cook’s family in Yorkshire that was transported across the world brick by brick in the 1930s. Delve further into Melbourne’s heritage at the Parliament House, Old Treasury Building and St Paul's Cathedral. And finally pay a visit to St Kilda a bayside suburb, where you will find picturesque views, pristine sandy beaches, and enticing restaurants and cafés.

Opened in 1854, the State Library contains two million books and was a key ingredient in Melbourne's winning the title of UNESCO City of Literature.
Block Arcade
A spectacular shopping arcade founded in 1891, comprising some of the city's best preserved architecture.
Shrine of Remembrance
Commemorating Victorians killed in WW1, this memorial's extravagant ziggurat design references several ancient monuments.
Victoria Market
The bustling 'Queen Vic' is the largest open air market in the southern hemisphere, and has been at Melbourne's heart for over a hundred years.
St Kilda
St Kilda is known as Melbourne's seaside playground, and is renowned for its impressive views of Port Phillip.
Federation Square
A hub of eclectic cultural attractions, Federal Square is one of Melbourne's hottest destinations.
Parliament House
The monumental home of the Parliament of Victoria since 1855.
Old Treasury Building
A spectacular example of imposing neo-classical architecture, built to contain the money that came with the Gold Rush.
St Paul's Cathedral
Built on the site of Melbourne's first public Christian service, the Anglican St Paul's Cathedral is an elegant example of Gothic Transitional style.
Cook's Cottage
An 18th century cottage built in a small Yorkshire village for Captain Cook's parents, shipped brick by brick to Australia in 1934.

AOn tours cancelled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure time, we are happy to offer our customers a full refund - minus a 5% credit card fee and the cost of any tickets that have been purchased.

For tours cancelled less than 48 hours before the scheduled departure time, we are unfortunately unable to offer refunds. If you would like to reschedule a tour, this is usually possible if we are given enough notice, but we cannot guarantee the same guide.

Changes made to bookings may be subject to rebooking fees to cover the cost of tickets purchased, transport, guide rescheduling and administration.
